Ashley Young returns to Premier League as he re-signs with Aston Villa

Ashley Young is back in the Premier League after re-joining former club Aston Villa on a free transfer.

The former Manchester United captain left England and Old Trafford in January 2019 when he signed for Inter Milan on an 18-month deal to play under Antonio Conte. Initially he was an automatic starter but in his first full season with he missed out on regular minutes to Achraf Hakimi.

Young still won the Serie A title during his time in Italy last season but at 36-years-old by the time the new season starts, he has decided to return to England for more regular minutes.

Inter had offered him a new deal and other clubs including Watford had held talks with the winger-turned-full back over recent weeks but Villa have won the race and the player has already undergone medicals to seal the deal.

Young played for Villa as a flying left-winger between 2006 and 2011, scoring 38 goals in 190 appearances before sealing a £16million move to Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He spent eight-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League and Community Shield once each. He made 261 times for the club, scoring 19 goals.

It's expected that Young will sign a one-year deal with the option of an extra year, which if triggered will expire just before his 38th birthday. The deal will officially go through on July 1st, when his Inter Milan contract comes to an end.
