Ashley Young has spoken of his disappointment after Manchester United missed out on a place in the Champions League for next season.
United were held to a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield on Sunday afternoon, a result which ensured Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side can no longer finish in the top-four of the Premier League.
Despite a resurgence under the Norwegian coach, United have struggled for consistency and have now won just two of their last 11 matches in all competitions.
United will now have to compete in the Europa League next season, and Young knows how big a blow playing in the competition is for a club of their stature.
"It’s a massive blow for Man United," he told Sky Sports.
"A club like this shouldn’t be talking about finishing in the top four, we should be talking about winning trophies. Ole and his staff will prepare over the summer and be ready for next season."
The weekend draw with Huddersfield embodied most of the key issues which have affected the club as of late, as poor performances from a number of key players were combined with costly individual errors.
However, Young believes United will need some time to reflect before they can begin to address their alarming issues.
He added: "I’m not sure what it is. It could be a number of things. It’s a disappointment now that we can’t get in the top four. We’ll have to go away and think about how the season has gone and come back ready to go again."
