Ashley Young details truth behind a bird 'pooing in his mouth'

Manchester United's veteran full-back Ashley Young has spoken out about an incident in 2014 in which a bird appeared to poo in his mouth.

United were taking on Swansea at Old Trafford in a game they eventually lost 2-1 when 'eagle'-eyed viewers were shocked as a white liquid appeared to drop into Young's mouth while he was chirping orders at teammates.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, but speaking on the UTD Podcast Young insisted the footage was fake news.

"It didn't happen!" said Young. "I've said this for God knows how long. It got to a point where I thought I need to do an interview to say that it didn't happen, but I just couldn't be bothered.

"It had gone viral, it's still going viral I think now. Even my wife and kids say a bird pooed in your mouth, but no it didn't!"

It is not clear what the substance was, or whether the video was simply an illusion, but the incident certainly got football fans tweeting.

Young also discussed his move from Aston Villa to United in 2011 during the podcast, and insisted it was the only club he was interested in joining.

"My agent called me and said: 'Listen, you're going into the last year of your contract (at Villa), there are a few teams that are in for you'", Young recalled.

"He said Liverpool . We'd already spoken to City. Then he said United had come in. And I said: 'When am I meet Sir Alex (Ferguson)? Where's the pen?' There was no other place I wanted to go.

"The history of the club, the players that were here, what they'd achieved. For me, that was the place I wanted to be. I wanted to go there and put my marker down on this club and play for the biggest club, for me, in the world. As soon as my agent said that... we didn't even meet Liverpool!"
