Ashley Young arrives at Inter Milan training ground to seal transfer from Man Utd

Ashley Young has arrived at Inter Milan’s medical centre to seal his move from Manchester United.

The United defender touched down in Italy on Friday morning at Milan Malpensa Airport to finalise his transfer to the Serie A giants.

Young, whose contract at Old Trafford was set to expire in the summer, had told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he was keen to accept a move to the Nerazzurri.

United chiefs subsequently agreed to accept a £1.3million deal for the ex-England man.

Young is due to sign an 18-month deal at San Siro, after Inter boss Antonio Conte had made him a target to enhance his side’s Serie A challenge.

Inter, who haven’t won the Italian title since 2010, have emerged as Juventus’ biggest challengers under the ex-Chelsea boss this term.

A switch to Inter will see Young team up once more with ex-United striker Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez - currently on loan at Inter from the Premier League side.

"It's my first time in Milan,” Young told reporters, as he prepared to undergo his medical.

If all runs smoothly, he could even make his debut against Lecce on Sunday.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he understands the player’s decision - despite his role as United captain.

“Well, to be fair, I think it was for Ashley, you know, he is 35 in the summer and, if he gets a two-year contract somewhere, I think it's up to him to take that," Solskjaer told MUTV . "We weren't ready to offer that.

“He's been a good servant for the club. He's been captain and he's won trophies, leagues, cups, but we've got players coming through.

“So it was time now, then. When Ashley's head and mindset was on 'yeah, I want to try this', why not do it now?“
