Ashley Tisdale found an 'exquisite way of displaying and accentuating' pattern via this essential kitchen feature

Ashley Tisdale.

There is perhaps no better feeling than achieving a home design scheme that is as visually appealing as it is practical. That's why here at H&G, we're big fans of backsplashes; the kitchen feature is such a mainstay in the home due to its protective properties, but it can also be an essential design element based on pattern and color.

Actor and Frenshe creator Ashley Tisdale is proving to us that a patterned backsplash can be just as impactful as artisanal tiling or intricate wallpaper. The High School Musical star recently posted a photo of her kitchen on Instagram, which follows a mainly neutral motif, from the white marble island to the spherical black and white hanging light fixtures. It's all subtly tied together with the patterned black and white backsplash, evoking a tile effect.

For those looking to create a deeper level of visual interest on their walls (most notably kitchen backsplash walls), tiles (and tile-appearing stick-ons) are an excellent option. And we're not alone in our admiration for this design technique, as experts explain.

'Using tiles as a kitchen backsplash is an exquisite way of displaying and accentuating their pattern, texture, and glaze,' says Diane Hyde, Marketing Manager at Craven Dunnill Jackfield. 'A beautiful way to bring a burst of color into a room, highly reflective gloss tiles are also a great way to create a sense of space and openness.'

Not only do tiled backsplashes look fantastic, but they actually have expansive abilities, too.

'In smaller kitchens, highly reflective gloss tiles are a great way to create a sense of space,' Hyde explains. 'As light beautifully reflects off the glaze finish, it creates a wonderful sense of openness, making the room appear wider.'

We particularly love how Tisdale's backsplash is coherent with her black, painted shelving and stove hood, creating a uniform appearance in that corner that is complementary to the lighter and textured elements in the rest of the space.

'If you’re looking to experiment with bold colors and decors and inspired layouts and patterns, tiles are the perfect way to make a distinctive design statement that is uniquely individual,' Adrian Blundell, Production Director at Craven Dunnill Jackfield, agrees.

For ultimate inspiration from Tisdale's space, we're looking towards these monochromatic tiles that offer a similar aesthetic. We love how they'll instantly elevate any kitchen, no matter the size (while the black and white colorway is sure to work alongside every color palette).
