Ashley Tisdale’s “toxic mom group” essay is the gift that keeps on giving. After going viral earlier this year with her piece for The Cut titled “Breaking Up with My Toxic Mom Group” — which fans quickly worked out included Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore and Meghan Trainor — the High School Musical actress has announced she’s capitalising on the social media storm with a new comedy series at Netflix called Toxic Moms.
Tisdale is set to star in the half-hour comedy, as well as executive produce it alongside Beef creator Ali Wong and Canadian comedian Sabrina Jalees. The series marks her first non-Phineas and Ferb-related project since the sitcom Carol’s Second Act was cancelled in 2020, and her second project with Netflix after Merry Happy Whatever, which was also cancelled after one season. Hopefully this series has more longevity…
According to the announcement from Deadline, Toxic Moms follows a sleep-deprived new mom who is “drawn into a clique of cool, wealthy mothers”. Gee, I wonder who they could be based on?
The description continues: “But when the group reveals its darker side, the series asks: in the isolation of motherhood, how far would you go to taste community?”
Fans react to Ashley Tisdale’s new Netflix series
Tisdale reposted the announcement to Instagram on Friday morning alongside the caption, “I guess we all can be a little toxic”, and fans have had quite the mixed reaction.
“Damn, she got kicked out of one friend group and is still milking it,” one person commented, while another added, “Ok, this is actually so pathetic”.
Meanwhile, others applauded her for “having the last laugh” and said that people “shouldn’t mess with Sharpay Evans”.
“This is so so clever and I love it,” one fan wrote, followed by someone else who replied, “And this is called transmuting negativity into GOLD”.
“No way! Is Haylie participating too?” a different user remarked, referring to Tisdale’s close friendship with Hilary’s sister Haylie Duff.

It’s yet to be announced who will be playing the aforementioned “toxic moms” in the new series — and while Hilary Duff’s schedule is jam-packed with her world tour continuing until 2027, Mandy Moore and Meghan Trainor’s schedules appear quite empty at the moment if they want to make a surprise cameo…
