Ashley Hutton facing surgery after suffering ACL injury

Northern Ireland defender Ashley Hutton will require surgery after suffering a serious knee injury.

Linfield Ladies confirmed that Hutton ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament during last week's Women's Premiership game against Crusaders Strikers.

The 33-year-old had to be replaced during the game after twisting her knee, with a subsequent MRI scan confirming the extent of the injury.

Hutton will undergo surgery in the next few weeks before beginning rehabilitation.

Experienced defender Hutton was a key player in Northern Ireland's qualification for next summer's Euro finals.

Despite the injury setback, she is looking ahead to returning to action following surgery and rehab.

“I can’t change it, so I will deal with having the operation before working hard with the medical team to get fully fit and back on the pitch," she told Linfield's website.

“Abbie (Magee) is doing brilliantly in her recovery from the same injury and seeing her around training, pushing herself and progressing each week is great to see."

Linfield Ladies manager Phil Lewis added: “It does not surprise me to hear Ashley already speaking in terms of a return to playing. She has been an outstanding player, leader, role model and captain for Linfield over the years and with the support of the club, she will overcome this setback."
