Ashley Cole urges Arsenal to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as next manager

Ashley Cole has urged former club Arsenal to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as the club's new manager.

The Gunners' are currently without a permanent boss after the sacking of Unai Emery last month.

Freddie Ljungberg is taking charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis while the club's board identify prospective targets.

And Cole believes they should look no further than Ancelotti - whom he worked with at Chelsea .

“When he talked, everyone listened, Cole told the Sun . "Now it would be great if he went to Arsenal.

“Carlo would bring togetherness, in terms of being a friend and someone who is not always serious.

“You have to go out on a training pitch and have a laugh, to enjoy what you are doing and he brought that in training sessions with his coaching staff.

“But when you went to games he gave you that love, that push and the understanding of what it means to win games."

Ancelotti was sacked as manager of Napoli on Tuesday just hours after leading his team to a 4-0 victory over Genk to ensure qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.

He has been linked with a number of high-profile roles since, with both Arsenal and Everton believed to be keen on approaching the 60-year-old.

Cole feels Arsenal would benefit from the experience of Ancelotti, who comes with a proven track record having won the double at Chelsea, as well as numerous domestic and European titles with the likes of AC Milan, Real Madrid and PSG.

Arsenal's technical director Edu is currently heading up a four-man panel tasked with finding a new boss, and they are keen to speak with Ancelotti.

Former captain's Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira are also among the candidates, while ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is a frontrunner.

But Ljungberg is not sure whether he is under consideration for the job full-time.

"I haven’t got any indications of whether I’m here or not," he said.

“I’ve said to the bosses I will do everything in my power to do as well as I can for this club and the players. Then obviously it is up to them to make a decision.

“I try not to put any emotions into that. It’s totally business and up to them.

“Should it be a quick decision? That’s far from me to say.”
