Ashley Cole on Frank Lampard's key managerial strength and his new Chelsea role

Former Chelsea star Ashley Cole has hailed Frank Lampard for his impact at the Blues since taking over from Maurizio Sarri in the summer.

Lampard has guided Chelsea to a top-four spot in the Premier League so far this season and progression through to the Champions League knockout stages.

The former Chelsea midfielder has endured a transfer ban which has hindered his ability to improve the squad but Cole insists that Lampard has done a fine job due to his tactical abilities.

"Tactically he understands the game. As players we do training sessions and we just do it and sometimes we don't know why we are doing it," Cole told BT Sport.

Lampard delighted with transfer embargo being lifted

"He's studied the managers that he's played under and took little bits from each of them. He's used that in terms of his philosophy.

"You can definitely see this is a Frank Lampard style of team and for me the main thing is the players have all bought into that very quickly."

Cole also discussed his own situation ahead of Chelsea's clash at home to Lille in the Champions League and explained how he is enjoying his role with the under-15s.

"Yes I am with the under-15s but not the first team. It's somewhere I had to start. I had to change my mindset a bit but the goal is to one day be with the first-team," Cole added. "If I keep doing well with the under-15s maybe I'll be sitting on the bench with Frank, who knows?"
