Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has spoken about over suggestions there were cliques in the England dressing room during the 'golden generation'.
Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand previously spoke out about the different dynamics in the England side and claimed that the rivalries between United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal played their role in England's underachievements over that period.
In the build-up to the Three Lions' clash with Montenegro, Raheem Sterling clashed with Joe Gomez after an incident at the weekend between the two clubs, which saw the Manchester City dropped by Gareth Southgate.
That has once again raised the topic of club cliques hampering the England squad.
However, Cole has insisted that whilst there may have been small divides in the camp, it wasn't something he was partaking in or noticed.
Speaking to ITV, he said: "I probably think, yes it's fair but I'd go back to what Gareth (Southgate) says, in the fact that these players have come through the ranks at 16,17,18s, whereas when I was in the team, it was 21s, maybe straight into the first team so there is a difference in terms of age groups.
"Cliques? I didn't see it too much, to be honest, but you do here about it. Rio (Ferdinand) spoke about it.
"I got on with everyone, I was there to do my job and I get that when we played Manchester United we might have beat them at the weekend and they might have been angry but we're there to do a job.
"I think that's what this team has over what we had."

Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon added: "There were England players that I didn't get on with, the Tottenham lads, I didn't like any of them.
"I didn't necessarily go and sit with them at dinner but never for one second on a pitch did I think 'I'm not passing to him because it's Teddy Sheringham'.
"Once you get on the pitch, even the training pitch, it doesn't matter."
