Ashley Cole delivers blunt assessment on Chelsea after the Blues are pegged back by Leicester

Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole insists that his old side should be happy with a point against Leicester City this afternoon (Sunday).

The Blues had to settle for a point against Brendan Rodgers' Foxes, with Wilfred Ndidi netting the equaliser for Leicester to deny Frank Lampard a victory in his first game at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea head coach.

Mason Mount had given the Blues the lead early on in west London, but Leicester had the better chances to win the game in the closing stages, with Chelsea holding on for a point.

And Cole, speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, said that Chelsea did not have the answers to a much-improved second half display from the visitors.

“Leicester were a different animal," he said.

"I think [James] Maddison started to get on the ball further up the pitch and start affecting the game. [Wilfred] Ndidi was controlling the game from behind, and they just seemed to step up a few gears, and Chelsea didn’t know how to react to that.

“Chelsea should be happy [with a point], but you’re playing at home and you should be winning these games."

Meanwhile, fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp said he felt Chelsea were fatigued after their efforts in midweek, having played 120 minutes and gone to penalties with Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul.

“In the first 25-30 minutes, Leicester never made a challenge, never made a tackle. There was no intensity about their game.

"Last 10 minutes of the first half, and then second half, they started to win battles all over the pitch. And that was the difference.

“You could see Chelsea starting to get a little fatigued, maybe the game in midweek might have taken a little bit out of their legs as well.

"But Maddison started to come alive in the second half and he started to run the game, and they [Leicester] were just the better team second half.”
