Ashley Cain's devastated girlfriend slams Matt Hancock after 'following rules’ with Azaylia

Azaylia's devastated mum has lashed out at Matt Hancock, pointing out that she and boyfriend Ashley Cain followed the rules regarding coronavirus restrictions while their daughter was dying.

Safiyya Vorajee, 33, said that she was "disheartened" after seeing pictures - and then a video - of the Health Secretary passionately kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo, 43, in Whitehall.

Labour later branded Prime Minister Boris Johnson "spineless" after rebuffing calls to sack Mr Hancock, with Mr Johnson’s spokesman refusing to say eight times whether he had broken the law.

Grieving families have also suggested that allowing him to stay in his position was a “slap in the face” for people who could not hug loved ones at funerals last month due to Covid guidance.

In the last hour, however, Mr Hancock has confirmed that he is resigning as Health Secretary.

Azaylia, who was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia when she was just eight weeks old, tragically died in April.

Taking to her Insta Stories, Saffiya said: "I was just in mid conversation and thought I’d share it with you guys about the whole Matt Hancock situation.

"And I feel really disheartened that this has all come to light about what he’s done really, because being in a hospital for such a long time and following all these restrictions and not being able to do so much and having time with your family together…

“And then seeing him doing what he did is so disappointing.”

Saffiya went on to ask her followers how they felt about the situation.

The workplace clinch is said to have taken place on May 6 – some 11 days before people from different households were allowed to meet indoors.

Mr Hancock was forced to issue a grovelling apology after The Sun published pictures of him in snogging Ms Coladangelo.

The images were said to have been taken at the Department of Health – and raised questions about how CCTV from a Government building was leaked.

He said: “I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances, I have let people down and am very sorry.

“I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter.”
