Ashley Barnes reveals details of text from Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp ahead of Man City clash

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes has revealed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp cheekily told him that he'd sign the striker for Liverpool if he scores against Man City on Sunday.

City travel to Turf Moor knowing that anything less than all three points will hand Liverpool a massive advantage going into the final two games of the Premier League the season.

The Reds moved back to the league's summit on Friday evening following a 5-0 demolition of long relegated Huddersfield Town but City will retake their one point advantage with a win against the Clarets.

Liverpool fans are absolutely desperate for the club to win their first ever Premier League trophy and as a result have rallied behind Burnley, and their joint-top goal scorer Ashely Barnes, to do them a massive favour.

Barnes is no stranger to bruising the big boys' noses, which he did last time out when he scored the equaliser in Burnley's 2-2 draw at Chelsea and then proceeded to wind up several Chelsea players with his rough and tumble antics - getting under midfielder Matteo Kovacic's skin in particular.

In fact, since he made his Burnley debut in 2014 only Jamie Vardy has scored more goals against the big six sides than Barnes.

As a result thousands of Liverpool fans have changed their profile pictures on social media to pictures of Ashley Barnes and have been sending the club good luck messages.

Barnes is keenly aware just how important the clash at Turf Moor is.

"I know what winning the League means," the Austrian told the Daily Mail.

"All of us would go down in Liverpool history if we helped them out against City.

"Jurgen Klopp has even sent a sly text to say if I score he might sign me for next season."

Although plenty of Liverpool fans will be throwing their support behind Barnes, the phsycial striker has revealed that his seven-year-old son, Flynn, is actually a City supporter.

"I'm aware of the profile pic thing, it's part of the craic - but Flynn isn't happy," added Barnes. "I'm telling him I've got to do my job against City and he's like 'Come on Dad, serious.' He won't be supporting Burnley that's for sure. He will probably try to wear a City kit underneath his Burnley one.

"He loves all their players and Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane are probably his favourites. I don't think I am his favourite at the moment. He is City mad and if I score he'll be kicking me after the game."
