Ashley Barnes claims he received text from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp - this is what it said

Liverpool fans will be hoping Burnley can do them a favour in the Premier League title race when they take on Manchester City at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.

City know that three points will take them back to the top of the league after Liverpool's 5-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Friday night .

Anything other than a win would hand Jurgen Klopp's side a huge advantage heading into the final two games of the season.

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes has now revealed that Klopp has sent him a message ahead of the game.

The boss cheekily told him that he'd sign the striker for Liverpool if he scores against City. Barnes has a great record of scoring against top six sides and a result thousands of Reds fans have changed their profile pictures to him on social media.

Burnley star Ben Mee wants to inflict title race pain on Manchester City

Barnes is clear on the importance of the game.

"I know what winning the League means," he told the  Daily Mail.

"All of us would go down in Liverpool history if we helped them out against City.

"Jurgen Klopp has even sent a sly text to say if I score he might sign me for next season."

How Burnley can cause Manchester City problems - and do Liverpool a title race favour

The striker's seven-year son actually supports City despite Liverpool fans throwing their support behind Barnes and Burnley.

"I'm aware of the profile pic thing, it's part of the craic - but Flynn isn't happy," added Barnes. "I'm telling him I've got to do my job against City and he's like 'Come on Dad, serious.' He won't be supporting Burnley that's for sure. He will probably try to wear a City kit underneath his Burnley one.

"He loves all their players and Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane are probably his favourites. I don't think I am his favourite at the moment. He is City mad and if I score he'll be kicking me after the game."
