Ashley Banjo becomes first ever co-host of Pride of Britain alongside Carol Vorderman

Ashley Banjo will be the first ever co-host of this year's Pride of Britain Awards, alongside Carol Vorderman.

The Diversity star, 33, is set to present the ITV show with Carol, 60, as they salute the nation's incredible unsung heroes.

Ashley, who has enjoyed a successful career in the industry as a former judge of Sky1's Got to Dance and co-presenter of BBC game show Can't Touch This, will attend the star-studded ceremony at Grosvenor House in London.

Thrilled about his new opportunity, the entertainer said: "I feel like I've been a part of Pride of Britain for a few years now but the chance to co-host it next to Carol, who is a complete legend and a pro, is amazing.

"It's such a special show and a hugely emotional and inspiring night."

Carol, who has been the ceremony's host for over 20 years, added: "Ashley is a wonderful person and I’m delighted that he’s joining me because he has been involved for a few years now and it just feels right.

"The Pride of Britain Awards are incredibly special evening and show to be a part of."

Celebrities in attendance of the event include Prince Charles, Ant and Dec, Anne-Marie, Ed Sheeran, Pixie Lott, KSI, Harry Kane, Joanna Lumley, Stephen Fry, Westlife, Jordan Pickford and Sharon Stone.

The professional dancer has appeared on several talent shows, including Britain's Got Talent as a judge.

Last year, Ashley and the rest of his dance group gave an emotional Black Lives Matter inspired performance on Britain's Got Talent - which sparked thousands of complaints.

Their routine included a sequence where a police officer knelt on Ashley's neck - in the same way George Floyd was killed.

Protests swept the globe demanding justice and racial equality after Mr Floyd, 46, died after being arrested by police officers outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnestota.

Footage of the arrest, showing a white officer kneeling on Mr Floyd's neck, went viral.

The powerful routine became one of the most complained about TV moments of the decade with more than 27,000 complaints to Ofcom.
