Ashes 2019: James Anderson injury scare with England bowler undergoing scan after calf 'tightness'

Jimmy Anderson has had a scan on his right calf after the England bowler suffered “tightness” while bowling during the first Ashes Test against Australia

The 37-year-old came off after his fourth over and was replaced by Chris Woakes

The news is a significant concern for England at this early stage of the match and series with Australia 83/3 at lunch.

Anderson conceded just one run in his four overs with three maidens at an economy of 0.25.

Jofra Archer could be Anderson's replacement if the calf problem keeps him out for any significant amount of time.

The World Cup winner was not selected for Edgbaston with Stuart Broad preferred and joining Anderson and Woakes in the bowling attack.
