Asda urgently recalls meat product due to undeclared allergens

Asda are recalling one of its meat products amid urgent health risks due to ingredients that are not mentioned on the label.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the supermarket chain are recalling their own brand of Maple Flavour Pork Belly Slices "because it contains wheat (gluten) and soya which are not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten and/or an allergy to soya."

As a result of the undeclared allergens, this means consuming it could pose a potential health risk for anyone with an allergy intolerance to wheat or gluten, or an allergy to soya.

The Maple Flavour Pork Belly Slices being recalled come in a pack of 400g in size and have a best before date of October 29, 2021.

In a statement on its website, the FSA said: "Asda is recalling the above product from customers. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product."

In the notice, Asda told customers: "If you have purchased Maple Flavour Pork Belly Slices with the above use by date, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt."

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and will ensure this doesn’t happen again."

The FSA’s advice was the same, with the organisation saying: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten and/or an allergy to soya, do not eat it.

"Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
