Asda 'triple charged' customer for home delivery leaving his account overdrawn

A man has been left distraught after supermarket giant Asda triple charged his card, leaving his bank account overdrawn and forcing his direct debits to bounce.

Luke Greenwood, from Huddersfield, claims he was charged three times for an Asda home delivery and has not been told when a refund to his account will be made.

The 40-year-old fears that the incident will negatively affect his credit score which he spent years improving due to his direct debits bouncing, Yorkshire Live reports.

Despite asking for a refund last week, Luke has not yet been told by Asda when he will receive one.

He said four of his direct debits were missed when the wrong amount of money came out of his account leaving him overdrawn.

Luke claims Asda have only replied to his emails once after he asked for a refund, with the supermarket simply replying 'thank you for requesting it'.

He said: "I've had late charges from my bank for the direct debits. I'm worried about my Vodafone bill, it's for my phone and it might get cut off.

"I don't have normal TV services either so it's all streamed, it will leave me with nothing if I get cut off."

He claims an issue with the Asda app caused the overcharge incident to happen - he had to submit his order several times after an error message popped up stating his payment had failed.

Despite the app telling him the order had failed, payment was taken from his bank more than once.

He also said the delivery driver told him he would make sure the other orders would be cancelled so he wouldn't be overcharged.

Luke said: "I have had to borrow money to cover some of my direct debits or more would have been missed.

"It's the stress of it.

"I have been working really hard to improve my credit file, I've not had a late credit payment since 2017, so I'm stressed that my credit will be affected by this."

An Asda spokeswoman said: "We want our customers to have a great experience when they shop with us and work hard to resolve any issues.

"We are in touch with Mr Greenwood and have refunded him for the orders placed with us in error."
