Asda is to offer Covid-19 vaccinations in store to help the mass roll out of jabs in the UK, it announced on Wednesday.
The vaccinations will start in store from January 25, the Mirror reports, making it the first supermarket to offer in-store vaccinations for Covid.
The supermarket was chosen by NHS England to vaccinate people at an in-store pharmacy in Birmingham.
Asda pharmacy staff will administer the vaccine to priority groups identified by the NHS.
The company's president, Roger Burnley, said: "We are incredibly proud to provide this service and are keen to do all we can to help the NHS and government accelerate the roll out of the vaccination programme.
"We have an extensive nationwide logistics network that could support the storage and distribution of the vaccine and our highly-trained pharmacy colleagues are experienced in delivering large vaccination programmes, having recently provided nearly 200,000 flu jabs to members of the public."
He added that they were "on hand" to provide the NHS with any practical support required so that more people can quickly receive the vaccine.
Asda said it would change its George clothing department to make space for the vaccination centre, which will be open 12 hours a day from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.
It has the capacity to administer 250 jabs of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine a day.
Shoppers can't just turn up for injections though - it is only those in priority groups who will be given appointments there. People are advised not to contact the store directly.
