Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl issue strict new Covid rules for shoppers

Strict new rules are coming into every single supermarket in England as of today, Tuesday, November, 30.

By law every customer is required to wear a face covering when shopping in a supermarket or store, unless they have a valid exemption.

Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl & M&S have issued new Covid rules following the government announcement.

The reimposed measures come following fears the new strain could evade existing vaccines.

Health secretary Sajid Javid aid he hoped the tougher rules on face coverings in England would be "temporary".

The new law states that face coverings will once again be mandatory in all shops in England, however, each retailer has their own rules on enforcing this.

As of today, face coverings will also be required on public transport, MPs will then vote on the newly imposed laws within the next 28 days.

Here are the face mask rules for Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's, Aldi and Lidl.

ASDA

On the Asda website it states: "We are asking customers to follow the new guidance and wear a mask, unless they are exempt. We have colleagues on hand to help if you have forgotten your mask."

Stores will also have hand sanitising stations and extra hygiene measures in place.

Aldi

All Aldi customers will be required to wear a mask when visiting stores across the UK unless they are medically exempt, the store has confirmed.

Aldi UK chief executive Giles Hurley said: “The safety of our colleagues and customers is our number one priority.

"Following the latest government announcement, wearing a face covering will be mandatory for everyone that shops at Aldi from Tuesday November 30, except for those who have a medical exemption.”

Masks also remain compulsory in Aldi’s Scottish and Welsh stores.

"As before, you’ll find sanitiser and wipes at the store entrance. The screens at the checkout are staying as well. We’re keeping the traffic light system in place too, to help monitor the flow of customers and prevent overcrowding.

The store will also be keeping its quieter hour

Sainsbury's

On the Sainsbury's website it states: "From Tuesday 30th November 2021, we are following government regulations and ask you to wear a face covering whilst in our stores, however, we completely understand if you have an exemption or reasonable excuse under the applicable regulations."

Morrisons

Morrisons will also be following government rules but not actively enforcing face mask wearing.

A spokesperson said: "We will be following all updated government guidelines to keep our customers and colleagues safe."
