Asda, Tesco, M&S and other places to get free meals for children this half term

Children across the UK can eat for free, or get a heavily discounted meal, this half term thanks to offers being run by a number of major retailers and venues. Retailers have been running similar schemes for a while during school holidays and have handed out hundreds of thousands of meals to children.

Here is where you can find a free or low-cost meal before the end of February...

Asda

Asda's free offer means that families are now able to access both a free children’s breakfast and a main meal for just £1 in all Asda cafes. Children will be able to get a free bowl of Quaker porridge from 8am to 12pm every day in 205 Asda cafes across February half term, on top of the existing £1 kids main meal deal.

In January, Asda announced the extension of both its Kids £1 meals and over 60’s Winter Warmer £1 soup café initiatives until the end of March.

Kris Comerford, Asda’s Chief Commercial Officer said: “We know when families are preparing for the school holidays it can often mean an additional strain on household budgets – especially feeding and entertaining their children. We remain as committed as ever to supporting our customers in tackling these tough times. Our café initiatives continue to provide a lifeline for over 1.5 million customers since we launched them last year, and we hope by offering a free warm breakfast in the February half term, it will help support many more in the coming weeks.”

Divesh Parmar, General Manager, Quaker Oats UK, said: "It's so important that everyone has access to breakfast to start the day which is why we’re partnering with Asda to provide free Quaker Oats porridge to children this half term. This initiative, alongside our new Share the Warmth campaign, means we can play a small part in getting a warm, nutritious breakfast to people who really need it this winter."

The current Kids for £1 menu includes a choice of one of six hot meals or a cold pick and mix sandwich meals deal for just £1.

Tesco

Tesco will be bringing back its Kids Eat Free scheme to its 312 cafés across the UK between Monday, February 13 and Friday, February 24 February 2023. The supermarket’s cafes will be offering one free Kids Hot Meal Deal, Kids Breakfast or Kids Pick ‘n’ Mix deal with each item bought by an adult from as little as 60p when showing their Clubcard at the till.

Popular menu items include beans or avocado on toast, fish fingers, baked chicken goujons or a sandwich. Hot main meals include a vegetable side dish, and the sandwich pick n mix includes a piece of fresh fruit.

M&S Cafe

M&S Café is bringing back its Kids Eat Free offer from Monday, February 13 with a Half Term Special. Running in M&S Cafés until February 24, you can get a free Kid’s Munch Meal (usually £4) when you spend £5 or more in a single transaction on non-kids food or drink.

The Kids’ Munch Meal includes Main + Snack + Drink, with choices from pancakes with blueberries and honey to classics such as jacket potato with beans and sausages and cheesy tomato pasta.
