Asda, Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury's to give staff pay bonus for coming into work

Asda, Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury's and many more supermarkets are giving their staff a pay bonus for coming into work.

Staff have been extremely busy during the Covid-19 pandemic, as shoppers took to panic buying toilet roll, pasta and baked beans.

Whilst restrictions have now been put in place - limiting the number of people in stores and products they can purchase - it's currently still a very busy period for employees.

And that's not forgetting the staff who have coped with the surge in demand for home delivery and click and collect services.

Supermarkets including Asda, Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury's have all said they will give their staff extra pay.

According to the BBC, here's exactly what workers will get:

Aldi

Effective from March 9, store and distribution colleagues will get a 10% bonus on hours worked.

Asda

Asda says it will be giving an extra week's pay in June to employees.

Sainsbury's

Workers will receive a payment of 10% of the hours they have worked since March 8.

This includes staff in Sainsbury's and Argos retail, Sainsbury's transport and warehouse teams, Argos distribution and all retail contact centres.

The pay will be awarded in May.

Tesco

Staff across stores, distribution centres and customer engagement centres will receive a 10% bonus on the hourly rate for hours worked.

All permanent colleagues who are currently in work will receive the increased hourly pay rate until May 1.

Lidl

Lidl workers across the business are being given a £150 voucher each.

Co-op

The supermarket did not specify how much they would be giving, but said staff would be given a bonus, money to spend and extra time off.

Waitrose

Waitrose said it is looking at a "number of options" on how to reward staff.

Marks and Spencer

M&S said "frontline colleagues across stores and supply chain" who carry on with their work will get an additional 15% pay reward.

Morrisons

The BBC were still waiting for a response from the company at the time of publication.
