Asda store in Birmingham to undergo major overhaul

A supermarket in north Birmingham is to undergo a major overhaul which will see new food and drink outlets and other retailers open at the site.

McDonald's, Claire's, Sushi Daily, street food outlet Bam Tuk Asian, Costa Coffee and Timpson are all set to open new stores at the Asda in Minworth.

The project will see the supermarket undergo "one of its biggest ever refurbs in more than a decade", according to the supermarket chain.

The McDonald's will be within the store and will not have a drive-thru facility while newly lodged planning documents suggest there will be a 'retail pod' near the main entrance which it is believed will house a Timpson dry cleaning, shoe repair and key cutting outlet.

A spokesman for Asda said: "The store is set to receive one of its biggest ever refurbs in more than a decade, gaining a new-look, a complete external transformation along with a number of new and exciting features.

"Exciting new concessions and kiosks are due to open in store soon, including a Sushi Daily concession offering an open kitchen experience, Bam Tuk Asian street food concession with a McDonald's due to open in store in the new year.

"George clothing and homeware will be expanding to offer increased choice and an extended range as well as a completely new look including a zoned area offering a large selection of baby products."

Asda said there would also be a new automated parcel collection and returns unit and the changes were due to be completed in November.
