Asda spark supermarket price war by slashing prices on 1,000 everyday essentials

Asda has slashed the price of more than 1,000 everyday essential items in store and online in a bid to get shoppers to cook more meals at home during the national crisis.

The move comes after Morrisons revealed it was cutting the cost of hundreds of products back in March.

Some price cuts from the supermarket chain include steaks, dairy products, treats and fresh fruit.

But that's not all - Asda has also reduced the price of cooking items like frying pans and hand blenders.

This should come as great news to those who are trying to save money on their weekly shop and eat more home-cooked food as the pandemic continues.

The chain has promised to reduce prices across more than a thousand items throughout May, with the lower costs lasting for at least 26 weeks.

Popular products included in the savings are Cathedral City Mature Cheddar Cheese (350g) at £2.59. However, Sainsbury's and Tesco are both selling the same item for £2.50.

Meanwhile, a pack of 16 KitKat Milk Chocolate bars are now priced at £2 at Asda - but you can get it for the same price at Iceland and Sainsbury's.

Asda is also selling a box of 240 PG Tips Pyramid Tea Bags for £3.50 - the same item costs £3.79 at Tesco.

Customers can even save on Asda's own-label items, including Butchers Selection Chicken Breast Fillets (650g) at £3.40.

An Asda spokesperson said: “During these challenging times, at Asda we recognise that buying habits are changing and customers are much more mindful of their outgoings.

“We want to reassure our customers our prices are staying low across a huge range of everyday essentials and store cupboard staples, whilst getting their cook on and having some fun in the kitchen to create delicious home-cooked meals.”
