ASDA shoppers walk out with over £1,000 worth of goods after underpaying on self-checkout

An investigation has been launched in an ASDA supermarket after customers were able to leave without paying over £1,000.

Police have now become involved after a group of four people left the superstore with a host of expensive electrical items for a significantly low price.

After using the self-checkout, three men and one woman did not pay the correct amount for the items, which in total should have been worth £1,300.

Despite scanning the items, police are now involved to understand why the actual price was not paid at the Minworth store, reports Birmingham Live.

Police have now released images of the individuals they are keen to speak to regarding the goods that were purchased on a self-service till from 11am on March 21.

They confirmed that items worth "several hundred pounds" each, including Sharp electrical items were put through the till but the correct amounts were not paid.

Officers are also keen to track down a Vauxhall Zafira registration number BN56 YEE which is believed to be connected to the case.

The force said: “Do you recognise any of these four?

“We want to speak to them after electrical goods worth £1,300 were taken from Asda supermarket in Walmley Ash Road, Minworth in Sutton Coldfield.

“A number of items, each worth several hundred pounds, were passed through a self-service till between 11am on Sunday 21 March and 11am Monday 22 March but the correct amounts were not paid for them."

The statement continued: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we understand that those involved drove away in a Vauxhall Zafira registration number BN56 YEE."

“If you know any of the three men and the woman in the image, or know anything about the Vauxhall car, please let us know.

“You can message us live chat at west-midlands.police.uk or call 101 quoting crime number 20BE/83730M/21. Alternatively to tell us what you know, not who you are, speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
