Asda shoppers split over new 'high sugar' colourful fizzy drink product

A brand new drinks product has dropped onto the shelves of Asda - and shoppers aren't happy with the sugar levels in the drink.

Popular supermarket Asda has released two new refresher drinks, both fruity and ready to drink. One is called Zesty Lime and Lemon Refresher, and the other a Fruity Watermelon Refresher.

One Facebook user posted the drinks reveal on a popular community page on the social media application, writing: "New Fruit Refresher Juices spotted at Asda", alongside a lemon and watermelon emoji.

The post garnered popularity quickly, with lots of comments flooding in too. With over 750 comments alone, there were mixed reviews on the product.

One Facebook user said: "My teeth are jangling just looking at the chemically induced coloured drinks!"

Another wrote: "Can firms never do anything without sweeteners!"

A third said: "5g of sugar in 150ml that's atrocious."

More comments read: "Heaven knows what’s in them or where they come from."

While others said: "No dayglo yellow to complete the set?"

However, not everybody was in agreement. One Facebook user said: "These are amazing! I literally got these this morning there so lovely."

Another wrote: "The watermelon one is so delicious."

A third said: "They are actually amazing. Really refreshing."

And finally, one concluded: "Lime and lemon is me new favourite drink now, they're lovely!"

The drinks are made with zero added sugar, with all the natural sugars coming from the fruits in the drink. An Asda spokesperson said: "We would like to reassure our customers that our new refresher juice range is made from naturally occurring sugars from fruit with added vitamins and there is no added sugar in the products.

"The colour in both juices comes from natural sources using ingredients commonly used in similar products."

The new refresher drinks are available now in Asda supermarkets across the UK right now.
