Asda shoppers slam 'unethical' Jubilee product calling it 'lazy' and 'unnecessary'

Asda customers have slammed a new £1.75 product that has been released to coincide with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The supermarket has begun selling pre-cut fruit 'drink infusions' that are intended to be placed into alcoholic drinks or water for added flavour.

There are two different varieties of the product: a "crisp and fragrant" version containing grapefruit, rosemary, lemon, and cucumber, and a "sweet and fruity" one, with orange, lemon, apple, strawberry, and cucumber.

One shopper who saw the new items took to the popular Snack Reviews Facebook page to share the news, writing: "Spotted at Asda."

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, shoppers were left divided over the fruit infusions, with some slamming the £1.75 price and use of plastic.

One said: "So it's literally a bunch of sliced fruit in a plastic box, labelled for drink. (That will have gone off by the time you try and use it) Marketing team need to be fired ffs."

"OR buy a whole lemon, a whole cucumber and a whole grapefruit, and have 10x as much for half the money," a second wrote.

A third echoed: "For that price it would be stupid to not just do it yourself."

"If only fruit came in its own natural biodegradable packaging," a fourth commented.

"Save money buy the whole fruit also less unnecessary plastic," another agreed.

Meanwhile, a sixth simply posted: "The world has gone mad."

A seventh shared said: "Would be so much cheaper to buy your own fruit and chop them up. The world is getting so lazy!"

However, other shoppers praised the new products, with one commenting: "Not a bad shout if you’re having a last minute picnic with Pimm's and won’t have a way of cutting stuff yourself."

"For somebody who struggles to use a knife and chop stuff this is brilliant," a second shared.
