Asda shoppers shares 'delicious' 32p potato hack amid cost of living crisis

An Asda shopper has shared how to make "lovely" potatoes on a budget.

With the cost of living crisis continuing to worsen, people across Scotland and the UK are looking for ways to cut back costs wherever possible. The price of a food shop is rising, and so cheaper alternatives to well-known products have become popular.

Asda sells Smart Price New Potatoes in Water for 32p. The tinned potatoes contains 550g of the vegetable.

While cheap, some shoppers are not a fan of the taste of potatoes when bought in a tin, but one Asda customer revealed how to make them "so much better". All that is needed is an air fryer and some spices.

Taking to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, they wrote: "Never been a fan of tinned potatoes but sprinkle whatever you fancy over them with a bit 1 cal spray..20 minutes in the air fryer and hey presto. (Big tin of Asda smart price 32p) Lovely."

Before long, the post had received a staggering 9,000 likes, as well as more than 2,700 comments. Asda shoppers and bargain hunters were quick to share their thoughts on the idea.

One revealed: "Normally don’t like tinned potatoes even the smell when you open the tin but as others have said use some spice/flavouring some oil and pop in air fryer! Great backup and taste so much better."

A second echoed: "Done this for years...different spices on them and throw in air fryer. Perfect."

"Great idea, never had tinned potatoes before, definitely giving this a shot," shared a third.

A fourth commented: "Being doing this for years...we sprinkle chilli and they are yummy...go down well when entertaining."

One shopper called it a "super idea" (Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group)

"Can't stomach tinned potatoes but started doing this a few years back and they are delicious, sprayed with fry light and sprinkled with Italian seasoning," stated a fifth.

"The price of tinned potatoes is going to triple," joked a sixth.

Meanwhile, a seventh simply said: "They look amazing super idea".
