Asda shoppers met with huge queues as stores reopen after Queen's funeral

Asda shoppers vented their frustration as thousands flocked to the supermarket following the Queen's funeral.

The retailer, as well as many others such as Tesco and Morrisons, closed for a few hours today as the nation said a final goodbye to Elizabeth II. The day was declared a Bank Holiday by King Charles to allow people time to watch the major historic event.

However, as Asda's doors reopened it was met with chaos, with queues compared those seen at Christmas or reminding others of lockdown in 2020. People took to Twitter to share their complaints.

Grant said: "Queues getting into Asda it’s only been shut for a few hours what’s wrong with people." Kirsty said: "No need for the queues in Asda, am I hell waiting in that for a pizza."

Dylan said: "If people thought The Queue was long they should have seen the queue in Asda when they opened at 5." Darren said: "Lizzie's queue has now been knocked off top spot by Walton Asda."

Philip said: "Just been to #asda Huyton... Couldn't believe it... Worse than Christmas."

Michael said: "Facebook and twitter is now all posts about how manic busy Asda stores around the country are since opening at 5! The world has gone mad, people standing in massive queues for a bottle of milk. I went round my local coop and it was v quiet….cos obvs everyone was at Asda!"

Asda announced its stores would be closing on Monday until 5pm, previously saying in a statement: “As a mark of respect for Her Majesty The Queen, all Asda stores will be closed on Monday, September 19, until 5pm, to allow our customers and colleagues to recognise the passing of our late monarch and commemorate her steadfast service to our nation.”
