Asda shoppers left horrified as machete thug storms supermarket

A machete-wielding thug stormed an Asda store in Birkenhead today and escaped with a haul of cash.

Two men burst into the shop on Stanley Road, at around 11.20am - one of them brandishing the blade.

The offenders are believed to have left on a motorbike and travelled towards Birkenhead town centre.

No staff were injured, although they and shoppers were understandably shaken.

CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries continue.

This afternoon, unnerved staff were gathered outside the store while officers carried out their investigations inside.

The shop was closed to members of the public, but the Iceland next door continued trading.

“Tell us what you know and we’ll do the rest.

"We will be supporting those staff who experienced this incident and will work alongside the business to ensure this despicable incident is fully investigated.”
