Asda shoppers in uproar as Christmas turkeys missing from festive food deliveries

Asda customers are left fuming after discovering their festive food deliveries were missing the Christmas turkey.

Shoppers were told turkeys are now out of stock, despite them ordering the crucial Christmas staple in advance.

The retail giant has apologised to individual customers affected by the blunder.

But customers are still left panicked and disappointed with no substitution for their Christmas feast, reports Hull Live.

Many have taken to Twitter to express their outrage after seeing the turkey was missing from their delivery or click and collect orders.

It comes as an added blow to customers in parts of eastern and south east England who have had Christmas cancelled by Tier 4 restrictions.

The new rules also put a stop to present shopping six days before Christmas, with only essential shops allowed to remain open.

One customer tweeted: "A bit confused to be honest. Ordered a small turkey crown before December 11 cut off date, for delivery on December 23.

"I go to amend my order to add more items and the Turkey is out of stock? Think we have enough problems this year without you adding to it."

While another was appalled after being offered a "refund only" for almost their entire Christmas food shop, including cranberry sauce, Yorkshire puddings and frozen roulade.

They wrote: "Disgusting service from Asda.

"Xmas delivery ordered three weeks ago. Refund only for my turkey, cranberry sauce, pate, roses chocolates, full cheese board, Yorkshire puddings, all of the freezer items including roulade and desserts. I am appalled."

While another customer was left with not only a missing turkey but missing potatoes too despite placing the £200 Christmas order in November.

They said: "First time I've used Asda for online groceries for £200+ Christmas shop for elderly relatives, ordered in November.

"Few hours before delivery get note to say all but six items substituted or out of stock, including turkey and potatoes. Won't use Asda again!"

Both click and collect and home delivery orders appear to have been affected, with some customers saying they had ordered their turkey well in advance.

One person added: "Imagine doing a click and collect from Asda last week for your Christmas dinner stuff to collect today, for them to now tell your the god damn turkey is unavailable.

"Of all the things to be missing from the Asda Christmas food drive through pick up, it's the b***** turkey."

Appearing to make light of the situation, another joked: "Looks like it will be a vegan Christmas this year as Asda have removed the turkey from my click and collect order.

"I'm happy but not sure the kids will be. The point of pre ordering was?"

One unlucky customer said the blunder marks the third year in a row they have not received their Christmas turkey delivery.

They said: "Well I can't even believe I am writing this but for the third year in a row you have not delivered our Christmas turkey.

"Our delivery is today and the turkey crown is not available and no substitution. We can no longer change our holiday order to add it."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Tier 4 restrictions "with a heavy heart" on Saturday, effectively cancelling Christmas gatherings for millions of families in London and the wider south east.

It means households are not allowed to travel or mix indoors with the exception of current support bubbles amid fears a new strain of Covid-19 is spreading out of control.

Relaxed Christmas restrictions for the rest of England, Scotland and Wales was scaled back allowing three households to meet on Christmas Day only rather than the previously promised five days.

While the five-day Christmas bubble remains in place in Northern Ireland.
