Asda shopper's face lights up after exchange with cashier

An Asda shop assistant made a shopper's face light up as he queued at the tills.

A woman shopping at Asda in Liscard today after working nights said she witnessed the exchange which made her feel "toasty inside."

Posting on Facebook group Wallasey Gossip, the woman said she was in the queue when she noticed the cashier had spoken to the man in front of her but he appeared not to hear her.

The shop assistant began to use sign language and the man "looked so happy" and explained he was deaf.

The woman who watched the interaction said: "This lovely lady then continued to sign all sorts of different things like, do you need bags?

"He replied with his answer and I could tell they were talking about Christmas and he was signing about having a drink and they were laughing."

The woman said he looked "happy for the interaction" and it also made her "feel warm inside."

When she was served by the same shop assistant, the woman said she told her it was a "lovely thing" to see.

The cashier explained she had studied sign language years ago, but due to having young children at the time didn't finish the course.

However, the shop assistant said she uses it with customers who are hard of hearing.

The woman added: "He went on his way looking happy for the interaction and I just wanted to say how lovely it was to see and it made me feel all warm inside.

"So I told the lady when she served me what a lovely thing that was to see and how special.

"She got a bit emotional and was saying 'oh thank you so much' and she had studied it years ago, but due to young children at the time didn't finish it.

"But uses it in work for some of the other customers."

The customer said she spoke to the shop assistant's manager to tell her about the interaction.

She added: "I went to customer services and spoke to the manager about the lovely lady and she said she will get a reward voucher by the end of the day and thanked me for telling her..

"Now I feel Christmassy and just wanted to spread some cheer."
