Asda shopper mocked for the contents of his trolley after being caught stockpiling

For most shoppers, stocking up on essentials means buying things like toilet rolls, milk and pasta.

But not everyone has the same idea about what's important to stock up on during the coronavirus pandemic - as was proven perfectly by one Asda visitor's shopping basket.

As reported by the Mirror, Brian and his wife Emma Rogers spotted the unusual purchase when they popped into an Asda just outside of Glasgow.

In the photo he was seen with an entire shopping trolley full of the Scottish soft drink Irn-Bru.

According to Brian, other people called the man out as he walked around the store.

He told Mirror Online: "People were all staring at him and saying 'dont Nick all of the Irn-Bru'.

"He looked very defensive. It is disrupting the normal supply chain.

"People were saying he should only be allowed to have one or two. He filled his trolley up to the brim.

"He couldn't out any more in."

His wife Emma said: "The bottles were rolling around on the till.

"It was the most ridiculous spectacle."

And about coronavirus generally, Emma said it's "bringing out and best and worst in people".

"People have started talking to me in Sainsbury's which never usually happens."

The news comes after Asda released a statement to shoppers in which it asked people to be considerate when filling their trolleys.

The statement read: "Whilst we are doing everything we can to maintain the availability of products for all our customers, we are asking our customers to shop responsibly in our stores and online so that everyone has access to the essentials."
