Asda shopper left fuming after accidentally buying tiny mince pies

An Asda shopper was left fuming when he got home to discover that the mince pies he bought were much smaller than the packaging.

Liam Smith visited the supermarket giant's Reddish store and bought a pack of four 'Baker's Selection' mince pies.

He bought the treats as a contribution to a family get-together but when he arrived, he realised that the pies were a fraction of the size of the plastic packaging they were stored in.

Sharing an image of the festive snack, Liam tweeted: "Don't know why I still visit Asda.

"Here thinking I was getting some deep filled mince pie.

"Not only poor quality but packaging waste of plastic."

He later followed up with: "Boris Johnson hasn't ruined Christmas this time it was Asda and their half a mince pie."

Liam told the Manchester Evening News that aside from the size of the mince pie, it was the 'unnecessary' amount of plastic used that shocked him most.

"I was amazed how small they were and how poor they were," he said.

"The mince pie was one third the size of the packaging.

"As we're all trying to reduce our plastic usage this just seems unnecessary and a waste of plastic."

Rival supermarket Sainsbury's replied to Liam's original tweet, offering to help.

Liam added: "It's amazing that Sainsbury's have been in touch. I've had no response from Asda at all."

M.E.N understands that the incorrect packaging was used for the mince pies.

An Asda spokesman declined to comment.
