Asda shopper grabbed by 'scumbag' as she walks out of store

A woman has warned people to be careful around Birkenhead after she was attacked on Eastbourne Road on Tuesday night.

The woman, in her 30s, had left the nearby Asda around 9pm on July 13 when an unknown man injured her face while trying to grab her backpack.

Writing in a post on a Facebook community group, she said: "I feel like it's my own fault as shouldn't have been on my own or listening to my music, but as police said, don't feel like it's my own fault."

People in the comments wished the woman well and reminded her that the reported attack and attempted robbery wasn't her fault.

One person said: "You should be able to walk around on your own without scum attacking you."

Another commented: "It's most definitely not your fault. You should be able to walk home safe."

In a warning to others, the woman wrote: "Just letting you know, be careful. Next time I'm going to go a different route or not be alone. I'm going to have a nice mark in the morning."

A Merseyside Police spokesperson told the ECHO : "We are appealing for witnesses after a report of attempted robbery in Birkenhead last night, Tuesday 13 July.
