ASDA planning to launch its own loyalty card scheme offering deals on groceries in store and online

One of the biggest supermarkets in the land is finally ready to launch its own loyalty card scheme.

ASDA is reportedly preparing to trial the money-off deals this year - in what will be a first in the chain's 72-year-history.

It is expected the card will be an upgrade of 'George Rewards' - which incentivises customers who purchase goods from its clothing line.

Shoppers will get money off groceries in stores and online with the new card, which will not replicate the grocer's Christmas Savings Card which allows shoppers to save and earn cash rewards in the run-up to the festive season.

The scheme is likely to be available digitally - via smartphones.

A source quoted by The Sun said: “It would be a move welcomed by customers. Other supermarket giants have loyalty card schemes and it allows shoppers to rack up savings throughout the year.

“Asda is already very competitively priced and this way money will go even further for hardworking families.”

An ASDA spokesman said: “For over 50 years we’ve driven loyalty with our customers by offering great value and range on the things that matter most to them - and whenever we have anything new to share, we tell them about it first.”

The announcement comes just days after rival Morrisons revealed it is axing its More loyalty card in May – seven years after launching to rival Big Four giants Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
