Asda petrol station closed after running out of fuel

Asda has closed its petrol station in Bedminster as queues are reported at thousands of fuel stations across the country.

The supermarket fuel station in south Bristol had a sign on the forecourt which said ''Petrol filling station closed. Sorry for any inconvenience.' A security guard at the supermarket confirmed it has closed due to a lack of fuel.

A nationwide shortage of HGV drivers has led to concerns over fuel supply shortages, which has sparked panic buying among some motorists.

Warnings have been issued by police about the mass panic filling of cars, calling the behaviour "crazy" and "unnecessary".

The president of the AA says panic-buying rather than supply chain issues is driving the shortage of fuel at some petrol stations.

Edmund King said the problem should pass in a matter of days if drivers just stick to filling up when they need it, adding “there is plenty of fuel at source”.
