Asda Parkhead's £687 pizza leaves customer stunned at checkout

A Glasgow man got the fright of his life while out for his messages last night after being charged £687 for a pizza.

The mishap occurred at Asda at the Parkhead Forge when Colin Harkins scanned his items through the self-service checkout.

Expecting a bill of around £4 for his purchases of cat food, meat, sour cream, mushrooms and vegan BBQ jackfruit pizza, he was shocked to discover that his shopping bill had been totalled up to £707.48.

Colin had picked up the freshly-made pizza, which would normally have a retail price of £2.95, for a reduced price of 10p expecting to walk away with a nice bargain for his tea. But the reduced sticker placed on the pizza indadvertedly scanned for £687.70 at the till.

Apparently its not the first time it happened over the course of the evening, with the supervisor's responding to his request for help one of: "Is this the £700 pizza".

Perhaps it was punishment for the pizza having pineapple on top - a food-related faux pax not too dissimilar to the corned beef and banana sandwiches that one Clyde 1 radio presenter tucked into yesterday, much to the horror of a host of Glaswegians.

Talk about unexpected item in the bagging area!
