Asda makes changes to store opening hours - and it's good news for customers

Asda is extending its opening hours during lockdown which could help ease lengthy queues outside stores.

When coronavirus lockdown began in March, supermarkets were forced to reduce hours to give staff more time to prepare the store for the next day.

In April, stores were able to extend opening times by two hours.

Now, selected Asda stores are now open 7am to midnight on Monday through to Saturday, with Sunday trading hours remain as normal.

The new timings means customers are able to shop later when stores tend to be quiet and have more chance of avoiding queues.

Meanwhile, supermarket giants are trialling different ways to shorten queues.

Aldi has a new traffic light system, while Morrison's has a speedy shopping lane for those doing groceries with a basket.

Tesco is asking customers to remain in their cars instead of queuing in the rainy.

A statement on Tesco's website explains: "If it's raining or particularly cold, we may ask you to stay in your car to queue – we'll let you know when you can come in."
