ASDA is bringing a change to every UK supermarket that will delight shoppers

Asda looks set to make a big change to the way people shop at all its branches in a first for the supermarket chain's 72-year-history.

According to reports, Asda will trial a new scheme this year as the country recovers from lockdown - with its first ever loyalty card.

The Sun says Asda will will offer shoppers money off groceries in stores and online with its new card.

It will be an upgrade of 'George Rewards' - which incentivises customers who purchase goods from its clothing line.

It's understood that it will not replicate the grocer's Christmas Savings Card which allows shoppers to save and earn cash rewards in the run up to December.

The scheme is likely to be available digitally - via smartphones.

A source told the publisher: “It would be a move welcomed by customers.

“Other supermarket giants have loyalty card schemes and it allows shoppers to rack up savings throughout the year.

“Asda is already very competitively priced and this way money will go even further for hardworking families.”

In March 2019, Asda launched its George Rewards scheme offering shoppers one point for every £1 spent.

The points can then be exchanged for discounts.

An Asda spokesman said: “For over 50 years we’ve driven loyalty with our customers by offering great value and range on the things that matter most to them - and whenever we have anything new to share, we tell them about it first.”

All the Rules for shopping in Tesco, Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury's, Lidl and Morrisons - from March 29

The announcement comes just days after rival Morrisons revealed it is axing its More loyalty card in May – seven years after launching to rival Big Four giants Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

The supermarket chain said the scheme will be withdrawn this spring in exchange for a new personalised incentive that will offer money-off vouchers via its app, reports The Mirror.

Morrisons said shoppers will no longer be able to collect points in stores and online from May 10, while deadlines to use existing points will be in place until August.

Under the current scheme, spenders can currently earn five points for every £1 spent, and 5,000 points are then worth £5 to spend as a voucher at the supermarket.

But from May 10, points will be withdrawn and coupons will instead be available via the Morrisons More app.
