Asda launches half price meal scheme for adults and extends popular 'Kids Eat for £1' deal

A supermarket chain will be offering adults half priced meals starting at the end of this month as it aims to help support families battling to cope with the rising cost of living.

Families in the UK have been battling record levels of inflation, rising interest rates, rising energy costs and stagnant wages. Food banks have been seeing record demand as people struggle to find affordable food to eat.

Asda, one of the UK's biggest supermarkets is now stepping in to help, offering a range of options. The supermarket is also extending some of its already available initiatives, like £1 meals for children.

Asda has been offering £1 meals for children since June 2022, and the chain says it has served over 7 million meals since it started. That package is set to be extended.

New help is also on the way, including half price meals for adult meals, as well as an £8.50 meal for a family of four deal. Kris Comerford, Asda’s Chief Commercial Officer said: “We know when families are preparing for the school holidays it can often mean an additional strain on household budgets.

"Our kids £1 café meal deals continue to provide a lifeline to families as we’ve served over 1,700,000 million meals since launch. Now with the introduction of half price adult main mains in cafés from 3pm onwards, it means we can extend our support to the whole family in the coming weeks and across the summer holidays.”

What options is Asda offering?
  • Asda Express Diners - From 3pm, the popular pizza deals will see a 16” Margherita go from £8 to £4 and all other flavoured pizzas drop from £9 to £4.50. The main meal options are not available in this format.

  • Adult meals start on 30th June, 2023 and end on the 4th September 2023.

  • Asda is the only retailer to offer Kids for £1 with no minimum spend or any adult meal purchase requirements.
