Asda issues urgent product recall amid salmonella fears

A warning has been issued to Asda shoppers after the supermarket chain issued an urgent product recall for one of its food items.

The supermarket chain is recalling its Vegetable Cous Cous packets (500g), over the "possible presence of Salmonella," but said no other food products have been affected.

Customers who have bought the item should bring it back to their nearest Asda store for a full refund. A receipt is not needed, according to Surrey Live.

The packets affected include those with date codes up to and including June 3, 2021, priced at £1.95, with the following barcode: 505478157846.

A notice on its website reads: "Asda are conducting a precautionary recall of Asda Vegetable Cous Cous (500g), due to the possible presence of Salmonella. No other products or date codes have been affected.

"If you have purchased Asda Vegetable Cous Cous (500g), DO NOT EAT THE PRODUCT, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt."

The supermarket chain says it is "very sorry for any inconvenience caused", and anyone who would like further information should contact Asda's customer relations team on 0800 952 0101.
