Supermarket chain Asda has said that they are extending their 10 percent discount for emergency workers at shops across Scotland as well as the UK.
The offer applies to all NHS staff as well as emergency workers who hold blue light cards as part of the national “Blue Light’ scheme.
It is worth noting the scheme is also open to those who serve in the armed forces and work in the social care sector.
The discount which was put into place at the 61 Scottish Asda stores on December 7 was set to end on January 2.
But the supermarket giant has decided to continue the scheme until the end of January 2022 as they acknowledge “the amazing work they do each day to keep everyone safe.”
Derek Lawlor, Chief Merchandising Officer at Asda, said: "This Christmas has been particularly tough for our emergency services, so we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for everything they continue to do by extending our discount in stores until the end of January.”
Card holders will be able to access the discount across a variety of product departments, including food and drink, George at Asda clothing and homeware, toys, gifts and optical, the Daily Record reports.
Asda has said that Blue Light card holders can receive the discount by presenting their own valid Blue Light card and ID when they are at the checkout.
The Blue Light Scheme is a nationwide scheme that provides card holders with discounts across a variety of major retailers online and in-stores.
Blue Light Card CEO Tom Dalby commented: “It has been incredible that Asda has supported our members with a great in-store offer in the run up to Christmas, helping them save at one of the most expensive times of the year.
“We are delighted that Asda have now extended their offer, recognising the work that our members do day-in, day-out to support our communities.”
