Asda is selling shimmering neon gins flavoured like lemon sherbet, pear drops and parma violets

Asda has revived the beloved sweetshop of our childhood – by way of gin.

Strictly for an 18+ audience, the supermarket’s three new gins are themed on some of our favourite sweets: lemon sherbets, pear drops and parma violets.

The Extra Special trio come in cool apothecary-style bottles with a cork topper and vintage-looking labels, so they’ll look the part on any drinks trolley or shelf.

But the best bit? They shimmer! Along with their strong neon shades, add a splash of colour to any cocktail or mixer. In fact the Parma Violets gin changes colour from purple to pink with the addition of tonic water.

Each gin is £18 for 70cl and has an ABV of 40 per cent. Ed Sowerby, ASDA spirits product manager, commented: "Novelty, quality gins have become a summer must-have for customers looking to entertain with flair and flavour. Working closely with our suppliers, we've created a range of gins which are both glitzy and gorgeous to look at, but also deliver popular flavours the nation knows and loves."

If the Extra Special gins sound a bit too sweet for you, there are more flavoured varieties to be found in Asda’s drinks aisle.

A new gin range called Verano Gin has launched at the supermarket, inspired by the easy-going pace of life in Spain.

They’re made for sharing with friends, and come in two flavours: a pink watermelon gin and a zingy lemon gin made with Spanish lemons and peel to create the punchy flavours.

The premium gins, which also have an ABV of 40 per cent and are £20 each, are best served in a punch bowl or jug, mixed with lemonade and plenty of ice and sliced fruit.

Flavoured gins are fast becoming this summer’s biggest drinks trend: Asda’s gins come hot on the heels of Kopparberg’s new gin launches, flavoured in the same combinations as their famous ciders; Mixed Fruit and Strawberry & Lime.

Earlier this year, Lidl also launched a colour changing gin as part of its craft gin festival. The Harborough's Lavender & Rose (40 per cent) gin contains PH-reactive butterfly pea flower, and when mixed with tonic, it magically transforms from blue to pink.
