Asda is handing out free baby nappies across its 254 in-store pharmacies

Asda is to offer free nappies for all premature babies.

The supermarket is partnering with Pampers to hand out the free nappies in all of its in-store pharmacies across the UK, in a huge first.

Previously, the diapers for babies born pre-term were only available in hospitals, or from healthcare providers.

But now, parents and carers will now be able to freely pick up the nappies from any of Asda's 254 in-store pharmacies.

The new partnership is sure to bring financial ease to parents and carers during the cost of living crisis.

The nappies for premature babies have been designed in collaboration with neonatal nurses (Derby Telegraph)

Speaking about the collaboration, Asda’s Superintendent Pharmacist, Faisal Tuddy, said: “By offering these nappies for free to new parents from our 254 Asda pharmacies, those early weeks with a premature baby are made slightly easier.

"Within our in-store pharmacies, customers can also speak to trained professionals for healthcare advice relating to baby and parent.”

Nicole Hallak, Brand Director, Pampers UK & Ireland added: “This partnership allows all UK parents to access quality nappies with our trusted Pampers promise for their precious little ones.”

And people have taken to social media to hail the supermarket for its partnership.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: This is massive and will make such a difference to preemie parents! Getting tiny nappies was a nightmare 5 years ago! Well done and thank you!"

And another said: " That's great, it was hard to find them anywhere when my son was born 26 yrs ago."

Reportedly, around one in 13 babies are born pre-term - with 60,000 babies each year requiring specialist care and smaller size nappies.

Therefore, Pampers - who have been developing nappies for over 60 years - have created a nappy which has been made with premature babies in mind.

Pampers' Preemie Protection Nappies are its smallest nappy — up to three times smaller than a regular new-born nappy.

They come in sizes for babies weighing less than 1.1lb up to 4lb.

They have been designed in collaboration with neonatal nurses for delicate skin and intend to minimise disruption and irritation during nappy changing.

They have end-to-end absorbency to prevent leakage and the nappy liner pulls wetness and runny mess away from the baby’s skin.

Pampers works with long-term partner Bliss to support parents with their premature or sick babies.
