Asda is giving away all its unsold Christmas veg for free

The big day may have passed but Asda is keeping the Christmas spirit going by giving away free bags of food.

Sacks of free sprouts, carrots and parsnips were on offer in Brynmawr in Blaenau Gwent this morning as shoppers hit the supermarket on Boxing Day. Asda branches across the UK started to give away leftover veg in the last few opening hours of Christmas Eve.

The kind gesture will continue in stores where there is stock until all leftover produce is gone.

Other food is also heavily reduced (Anne Baker)

Anne Baker was shopping in the supermarket in Brynmawr today when she shared pictures of shelves full of heavily reduced meat.

She said: "The wastage in here is shocking today and there’s more coming out too. It’s quite quiet at the moment but the meat is heavily reduced too."

Across the UK, shoppers have also been sharing their pictures of free vegetables.

In Swindon, a sign read: "20p veg is now free to customers and colleagues. Have a veggie Christmas from all at Asda Swindon."

It is the second year Asda have rolled out the gesture after giving away free food in Leckwith,  Cardiff .
