Community groups across Lanarkshire are celebrating after being shortlisted for Asda Foundation’s new trial of a digital Green Token Giving scheme.
The Machan Trust in Larkhall, FAMS in Motherwell and Gilmour and Whitehill Parish Church Community Cafe in Hamilton have all been shortlisted from the local area and are in the running to receive £500, with both runners up receiving £200.
Due to Covid, in-store green token giving is paused but Asda Foundation is trialling an online vote across three regions of the UK, meaning you can vote from the comfort of your home whether you shop in person at Asda, online or click and collect.
The four-week trial takes place in Superstores across the West of Scotland and groups will receive their donations in May after the online votes have been counted.
Gillian Summers, Asda Hamilton community champion said: “We are so excited to be part of this trial and really proud to be able to continually support the local charity groups in our area.
"We’re always thrilled when customers chosen good causes benefit from these vital funding boosts and we get to raise awareness of what they do.
It’s great that we’re trialling voting online so customers still have the opportunity to be involved and vote for these groups who are right on our doorstep.”
The Machan Trust is a children and families youth charity, which provides breakfast clubs, lunch groups and various youth activities. Throughout lockdown the Trust has kept in contact with families offering support and food packages.
Gilmour and Whitehill Church run a community drop in cafe and provides anyone in the community who is struggling with provisions and emergency food parcels.
Families Affected by Murder and Suicide offers support to anyone suffering from mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing issues, including fear, loneliness, depression and anxiety.
This year, the Asda Foundation is committed to giving over £1 million to thousands of good causes through digital Green Token Giving.
