Asda introduces dedicated shopping hours for NHS workers during coronavirus pandemic

Asda will introduce dedicated shopping hours for NHS workers from Monday, March 23.

The supermarket has followed the likes of Sainsbury's and Tesco in reserving shopping periods for NHS doctors, nurses and other staff during the coronavirus crisis.

In an email to customers, Asda CEO Roger Burnley wrote: "We know that our amazing NHS staff are working harder than ever, which is why, as of next week, we have decided to prioritise their access to our stores every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8-9am in our larger stores."

The first NHS shopping hour will be on Monday, March 23.

Asda has also pledged £5m food bank partners FareShare and the Trussell Trust and amended opening hours, so all stores will be open from 8am to 8pm, to assist staff in re-stocking shelves.

Mr Burnley added: "As a final point, we would also urge our customers, where possible, to use cashless payment options to reduce contact with our colleagues and help prevent further spread of the virus."

Last week, Asda announced that early morning Friday shopping will be reserved for vulnerable groups, including the elderly and pregnant.
