Asda in 24-hour Christmas opening hours bid for dozens of stores

Asda wants the option to open more stores around the clock over the busy Christmas period.

The supermarket giant is submitting applications to give it the option to open extra stores 24 hours a day in the run up to Christmas Day and between Christmas and New Year.

In North Wales, proposals to adjust planning conditions restricting opening hours are already in for stores in Llandudno and Kinmel Bay, near Rhyl.

They want the option to open around the clock between December 16 until January 3, except for Sundays when trading laws restrict opening hours.

Asda said similar applications are being made around the country - although added it would not be at every store.

A spokesman said: "This gives us the flexibility over the Christmas period to respond during busier periods.

"It means we can extend opening hours when required but it does not necessarily mean we will open each store 24 hours."
