Asda has begun to sell mince pies four months before Christmas

When stores should start selling Christmas items is always a contentious topic

Some believe that stores should wait until December while others believe the earlier, the better.

Well, eagle-eyed shoppers even spotted boxes of the festive treats on Asda shelves back in August, reports CambridgeshireLive.

However, last year the retailer revealed that it sells mince pies all year round - despite them being synonymous with Christmas.

The buttery pastry offering are filled with juicy raisins and festive spices.

An Asda spokesperson said: "Mince pies are firm favourites with our customers, which is why we have them available in our stores all year round and not just for Christmas.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "Our bakeries don't sell mince pies all year round but we do start selling them a few months before Christmas because our customers tell us they really enjoy them."

Asda's mince pies have been the talk of the town on social media.

Food blogger NewsFoodUK posted a picture of the pies on Instagram, and the image has garnered hundreds of comments.

One follower said: It's bl**dy August."

While another simple put "Whattttt"
